Okay, so Twitter is not SEO gold, but SEO isn't all about Google PageRank and "dofollow" is it? Any backlink which is indexed is good for your website, so think before you link! Linking to TinyURL and other shortening services isn't such a good idea, because they're getting all the backlinks benefits AND people are not getting to remember your domain name and your brand. Okay this is more like SMO, but anyways, I'd just like to show you a plugin I made for WordPress. It's called Twitter Friendly Links, makes your Twitter links look cool.

More info on the plugin page: http://kovshenin.com/712

Cheers.

While SEO might not be attained through Twitter, a lot of traffic is driven, which is essentially the point of SEO

What many people forget is that the best links do not come from placing them on a sie, but from convincing people to place them on their sites. Whatever you do to connect with people and to share information will ultimately lead to more links. Twitter is very good for SEO if you think like a PR person rather than like a coder.
