Getting referrals is one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to bring in new customers. It’s a subject I’m very passionate about, so you’ve probably noticed that I spend a lot of time on this blog sharing tips for getting more referrals.
Here are a few more tips to help you out.
- Send your customers thank you notes—You’d be surprised at just how effective a handwritten note can be at getting your customers’ attention and nurturing your relationships with them. Each week, send handwritten notes to a few of your clients thanking them for their business and loyalty. This will help you generate referrals over time.
- Identify influential customers—It might sound like you’re playing favorites, but the reality is, you need to do just that. Figure out which of your customers are most influential and have the best capacity for generating buzz about your business. Once you’ve identified the top influencers, find way to cater to them and nurture your relationships with them.
- Keep in touch with clients on a regular basis—Don’t ignore your customers for months at a time while you’re out trying to generate new business. That will make you look like the “friend” who only calls whenever he needs a favor. There are plenty of easy ways to keep up with your customers—email, social media, snail mail, and phone calls. Always let your customers know you’re thinking about them, and they’ll start to think about you more often.
