You’re busy, and you might not have time to keep up with your blog. So, what are you to do? Shut your blog down and miss out on the chance to increase brand awareness, engage your target audience, drive traffic to your website, generate leads, make sales, and so on? Of course not!
Instead, you should consider getting outside help in the form of a ghost blogger. A ghost blogger is someone who will write posts for your blog which will be published under your name. Now, some out there don’t like the idea of using ghost bloggers, claiming that it’s deceptive, inauthentic, and dangerous, but I disagree. And the truth is that it doesn’t really matter what you or I think about it; companies are hiring ghost bloggers and that’s not going to change. My goal is to help people hire the right ghost blogger.
That said, here are a few tips that will help you hire the right writer for the job.
- Don’t be cheap—As a freelance writer, I’ve encountered many people out there who are just looking to hire the cheapest writer they can find (it’s not me, that’s for sure). That’s all they care about – spending as little as possible. Guess what? If you’re cheap when you hire a ghost blogger, you’re not going to attract the best talent. Instead, you’ll probably end up hiring a blogger who has a poor command of the English language and who will crank out low-quality posts that drive readers away and reflect poorly on your brand. If you want good talent, you’re going to have to pay competitive rates. It’s that simple.
- Talk to the blogger to make sure you are both on the same page—Remember, the ghost blogger is going to be posting under your name and the posts will be representing your brand. It’s important to make sure the blogger is someone you click with…someone who gets your brand and can write posts that fit the image.
- Always ask for samples of the blogger’s work—You should NEVER hire a writer without first seeing his or her work. Anyone can claim to be a good writer, but until they can prove it, you shouldn’t hire them. Any good blogger will have plenty of samples to show you.
- Hire a writer who is responsive and easy to communicate with—I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten new clients because another freelance writer dropped the ball and was difficult for the client to reach. When taking applications and interviewing candidates, find the job candidates who are most responsive whenever you email or call them. These are the ones who will be easiest for you to work with.
