What about the call to action? I've seen that listed on numerous other "XX ways to increase your comments" and I have to agree with them.

By "calling someone to action" you evoke a strong response in the reader, leaving them more likely to either (a) speak out against you or (b) speak out in support with you. Either way, you start a discussion, which will lead to even more people chiming in – creating a sort of snowball effect.

I believe commenting contest is one of the most effective way to drive tons of comment on every blog post in a blog. Holding a commenting contest, rewarding great prizes such as cash, banner advertisement, logo design and the like, for readers who leave the most comments on your blog.

Thanks for the great ideas. The first one on "Say hello to new visitors" looks especially good. I went ahead and installed the steroid version of the What Would Seth Godin plugin >> "Published Articles Since Last Visit" at http://padicode.com/blog/published-articles-since... and it seems to be working great.

Great advice! Another tip that I'd like to add is that bloggers should remove the "nofollow" tag if they want more people to leave comments. Although the main purpose of "nofollow" tag is to ward off spammers, it also discourages people to leave legitimate comments because they can't get any "link juice" for commenting.

I want to set up a blog for my mom so she can enter her recipies that can be shared by our family members. I also want to make the blog flexible enough such that other family members can also enter their own favorite recipes, rather than just comment on her entries.

I don’t know why I always seem to forget the details when it comes to my blog. I don’t have a lot of comments on my content, so I’m surely going to employ some of these simple tips. I smack myself in the head for not thinking of some of these. The one thing I still haven’t really figured out is trackbacks – so anyone who can direct me to a simple way of understanding them, I’d much appreciate it!

I have a WordPress blog, and WP has so many plug-ins that it’s difficult to keep up with them all.
